I Come with Baggage
I’m a Bagger dude, I’ve owned many a V-Twin, and Mamas Road Glide sits patiently in the garage. Recently, I wanted something half the weight and twice the fun and a Ducati ST2 L-Twin filled the bill perfectly. But wait, I need a place for water, warmer gloves, my sunglasses, cell phone, vest, and t-shirt. I have always carried power bars, sunscreen, minor medical, a bungee cord…you know, the basics. Now I got nuthin.
I started nosing around for motorcycle tail bags and my search took me to Kemimoto. They manufacture hundreds of useful Harley-Davidson/motorcycle accessories. I searched motorcycle bags and found 87. Tank bags, backrest bags, swingarm tool bags, windshield bags, even insert ice-cooler bags, and of course, tail bags.
The 22L Expandable Tail Bag caught my eye. Designed to fit on a sissy bar rack, on the top of your trunk, or in my case, on my back seat. This bag holds up to 22 liters of space fully expanded, that’s everything plus a half helmet! Made from PU leather and 1680D Oxford cloth it’s extremely sturdy and comes with a waterproof cover. It includes six straps that allow you to attach the bag virtually anywhere. The black matte finish would look great on the Ducati. Orders in.
The two side release buckle straps were the perfect solution for securing the bag to the seat. The base of the bag is a very sturdy hard plastic to keep the shape and the integrity intact. A rubber friction bottom adds stability and protects the seat. Dual zippers on the hard plastic top offer easy access and are designed to protect the contents. There are two outer side pockets and a front scratch-resistant glasses pocket.
I loaded this baby up with all the aforementioned goodies. I like to ride early in the morning, it’s my coffee. I hit the road at 6:30, with no traffic, crisp clean air, and the Kemimoto tail bag packed for the day. My ride includes hairpin twisties, 80mph straight away, and big sweeping curves through the northern Arizona mountains. The high desert in Arizona can start quite chilly but, in a few hours, it warms up. Hence the need for multiple gloves, a place to store a vest, a T-shirt, and water. Speaking of which Kemimoto had a good-looking pair of carbon fiber motorcycle gauntlets that turned out to be exactly what I needed for these early morning rides.
All in all, the Kemimoto 22L Expandable Tail Bag exceeded all my expectations, it stored everything and I never even used the expandable option. It stayed completely secure and I never noticed it was there. And after those 250-mile days in the Arizona heat an ice-cold beer sounds really good and when I realized the Kemimoto 22L Expandable Tail Bag fit everything I needed and a six-pack of my favorite NA beer, I was sold!
